This course will offer an in depth look at the environment and population considerations for teaching yoga to incarcerated women, specifically in a jail setting. Focus will be on facilitating relatable practices while holding mindful boundaries, addressing variable levels of ability while adapting to the environment, considerations for trauma and high-stress circumstances, and dealing with difficult participants. Upon completing the course, the yoga instructor will have a clearer understanding of developing class plans that meet the needs of this specialty population.
Course facilitator has run a re-entry yoga program with incarcerated women for seven years, and has conducted scientific research on the benefits of yoga with incarcerated women.
